MC Humane Society Fundraiser Sets New Records
Mutts & Martinis honors long-time supporter Nelda Blair
The numbers are in, and this year’s Humane Society of Montgomery County annual spring fundraiser set new highs for HSMC fundraising efforts. Mutts & Martinis, An Evening Under the Stars, raised more than $123,000 in total funds. A record 235 people attended this fun-filled evening at Carlton Woods.
New records were also set in the funds raised from the silent and live auctions. Three pups being auctioned raised some very lively bidding during the live
auction.
This year’s event honored long-time resident, local community leader and HSMC friend and supporter Nelda Blair. Blair has been involved with HSMC for
many years and has continuously provided financial support, as well as assistance with efforts to raise community awareness of the need to help and care for orphaned and abandoned animals in the area. She has long been the voice for those who cannot speak for themselves.
In recognition of her support, Blair was presented with a dog bone-shaped plaque and a lifetime membership in the Humane Society of Montgomery County.
Event guests were also treated to an evening of music for dancing provided by famed jazz artist Yvonne Washington and her band, the Mix. A powder blue, Italian retro flyscooter was won in a raffle by Calli Rudebusch. Also included in the raffle was
a custom painted tub filled with premium wines, won by Mike Larson.
A special guest appearance by Stump, the 2009 Westminster Kennel Club’s Best in Show winner, thrilled and delighted guests.
This year’s event was underwritten by Marimon Business Systems Inc.
The Humane Society of Montgomery County provides the residents of Montgomery County with programs and services including pet adoptions, low cost spay and neuter services, lost pet services, humane education and shelter services for approximately 2,500 lost, abandoned and abused animals each year. l
