The Arnoldy home seems to be set in a different time and place. With its
medieval-inspired majesty and Old-World charm, the magic of Christmas became
that much more captivating during the 2008 Kappa Kappa Gamma Holiday Home Tour,
which is held every other year.
The residence, located in the River Oaks area, was one of four homes decorated
for the holidays to raise money for several local charities. While the property
may be located within a bustling Houston-area district, its interior and
private, exterior spaces seem more suited for a castle nestled within a
clearing in the woods.
The 9,660-square-foot, Spanish-Mediterranean style home was constructed for
newlyweds Scotty and Jana Arnoldy in 2007. Its contents, however, bear history
dating back to the 12th century. World travelers, the Arnoldys share a passion
for Christian art and Old-World inspired design and architecture. They are avid
collectors and their taste is impeccable.
Floral designer Miriam Westmoreland took an organic approach in adding holiday
flair to the home for the tour. Fresh flowers and rustic accents played
perfectly against the castle-like backdrop, adding emphasis to the Christian
art already in place.
The first few steps toward the home take you on a journey back in time. A 16th
century Grecian fountain is set into the outdoor entrance fa
çade. The scene is completed by the custom Spanish iron front doors. The front
hall is fitted with
Red dogwood branches add drama to the coach lamps flanking the front door. Noble
fir, ilex berries, pussy willow, heather and cedar provide weight and depth.
˚ Fresh magnolia garland and luxurious ribbon is combined with crackled glass
balls to bring holiday grandeur to the staircase.
