sounds of stage & screen, feb. 8
The Conroe Symphony Orchestra will present its “Sounds of Stage & Screen” concert at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 8 at The Ark Church, 450 Humble Tank Road in Conroe.
Music director and Conductor Dr. Don Hutson begins the evening with the traditional Star Spangled Banner, followed by Overture to La Forza del Destino. The audience will then be treated to Overture to The Barber of Seville and Phantom of the Opera.
Featured guest artist, 10-year-old Gideon Schlichter will perform a moving rendition of Haydn Piano Concerto. The evening’s entertainment will continue with Pirates of the Caribbean and close with The Empire Strikes Back.
Tickets for the concert are $15 for adults and $5 for children under 12, with special rates available for groups of 10 or more. Indrani Goradia will host a special evening of “Love Your Life - Live Your Dream” on Feb. 12 from 7 p.m.-9 p.m. at Borders Bookstore Market Street. The event will include a workshop and book signing.
Indrani Goradia is an author, speaker, master life coach, triathlete, marathoner and yoga therapist. She recently published her life-mastery book, The Indrani Principle: Inhale Life, Exhale Joy, and is a featured expert with Steven Covey and Deepak Chopra. Indrani is a uniquely poised leader coming from multiple ethnic backgrounds from Trinidad and India. She teaches her clients to get past fear and regret so they can begin crafting the life they have dreamed while having the time of their life.

heart trail run, feb. 13
Imperial Sports Charities, in conjunction with the communities of Imperial Oaks and The Falls of Imperial Oaks, is planning the inaugural Run Away With My Heart Trail Run for Feb.13.
RAWMH will consist of a 1-mile Kids’ Run (12 and under), 3-mile Walk/Run, and 5-mile Trail Run. Awards will be presented to first-, second-, and third-place winners for the Trail Run, and medals will be given to all children participating in the Kids ’ Run.

Stage Right of Texas will present COLE, An Entertainment based on the Words and Music of Cole Porter devised by Benny Green and Alan Strachan from Feb. 19-March 7 at the Crighton Theatre in downtown Conroe. A lively musical based on the life of the legendary composer Cole Porter, COLE tells Porter’s life story through his own music.

until march 2
The second annual health and wellness program Library L.I.T.E. (Lose weight, Increase confidence, Tone your body, Exercise and energize) will run through March 2. The six-week program will include a wellness newsletter, walking program and free health and wellness activities for all ages offered at select library branches.
A partnership with the AgriLife Extension Center will enable library patrons to sign up for the Walk Across Texas walking challenge at four participating library branches. Sign up registrations will be taken until Feb. 22, and all miles must be reported by March 1.
The first 25 people to sign up for the walking program at each participating branch will receive a free pedometer. Miles walked can be reported on the library Web site at www.countylibrary.org.

excellence awards, march 5
The 2010 Five Who Share Service of Excellence Awards will be held on March 5 from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at The Woodlands Resort & Conference Center.  
Debra Sukin, St. Luke’s The Woodlands Hospital & St. Luke’s Lakeside Hospital CEO, will serve as the honorary chair of this year’s “health-themed” event.

MARKET STREET FINE ART SHOW accepting applications for artists, until march 26
Artists of The Woodlands can reserve exhibit space to showcase artwork at the annual Market Street Fine Art Show scheduled for April 24 from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. around the Central Park area.
This year, exhibitors can purchase tented booth space to display paintings, woodwork, sculptures, glass, mixed media and other works of art.
