St. Jonah Orthodox Church will host its Fifth Annual Exhibition—Holy Images: An Exhibition of 18th and 19th Century Russia Orthodox Icons on
Feb. 13-15.
The exhibit features over 50 examples of exquisite Russian iconography,
featuring images of Jesus Christ, the Virgin Mary and many Saints and holy
fathers. Presentations by speakers and St. Jonah’s choir are scheduled throughout the exhibition hours.
The Tea Room will sell homemade ethnic foods and a variety of hot and cold
beverages. St. Jonah Books & Gifts will also be open during the exhibition. Books, icons, crosses, new
Russian imports, vintage Russian porcelains and many other religious and gift
items will be for sale.

Dinner and Auction, Feb 13
StoneBridge Church will host its Third Annual Can Buy Me Love Valentine’s Dinner and Auction on Feb. 13 from 5:30 p.m.-9 p.m. at StoneBridge Church, One
StoneBridge Church Drive.
This event includes dinner catered by Pappas Catering and entertainment by
comedian Jeff Allen.
All proceeds will benefit the youth internship program at StoneBridge Church.

Montgomery County’s Writers in Performance presents Chicago novelist and National Book Award
winner Larry Heinemann on Feb. 19 at 7 p.m. at Lone Star College-College, 3200

First Aid Class, feb. 19
A First Aid Class will be held on Feb. 19 from 6 p.m.-10 p.m. at the South
Montgomery County YMCA, 6145 Shadowbend Place.
Learn the basics of first aid. Certification cards are good for two years. The
prerequisite for this class is a current CPR card.
ron clark seminar, feb. 21
The Junior League of North Harris and South Montgomery Counties Inc. presents
Ron Clark, New York Times best-selling author, who will share his classroom
wisdom with the community on Feb. 21 from 8:30 a.m.-11 a.m. at The Fellowship
of the Woodlands, One Fellowship Lane.
Educators who attend will receive two Continuing Education credits for their
participation in this seminar. Tickets are $10 and are available at www.jlnhsmc.org.

Heart ball
The Heart Ball will be held on Feb. 21 at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott Hotel & Convention Center. In addition to a performance by the nine-piece band, Fried Ice Cream, there will
be Las Vegas rock ’n’ roll impersonators to heighten the evening’s entertainment.
Cocktails and a silent auction session begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by a live
auction, dinner and dancing at 8 p.m.
This year’s Heart Ball will honor The Mended Hearts, a support group for those who have
fought cardiovascular disease and stroke, and its founder Bob Turnbull.
Individual tickets are $300. Event sponsorships are still available ranging from

john cooper school’s 21st annual gala
Plans are well under way for The John Cooper School’s 21st Annual Gala, scheduled for March 7 at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott
Hotel and Convention Center.
Since its inception, the gala has evolved into a social event that brings
together The John Cooper School and The Woodlands communities for a fabulous
evening, complete with live and big board auctions, fine dining, music and
dancing.
Committee members are currently soliciting auction donations, table sponsorships

young texas artists music competition
The Young Texas Artists Music Competition announces plans for its 25th
Anniversary Celebration from March 12-14 at the Crighton Theatre, 234 N. Main
Street, Conroe.
The statewide competition provides an opportunity for classical music artists to
compete for monetary prizes and performance opportunities and to be heard by a
panel of distinguished judges, all esteemed leaders in their respective
disciplines. The three-day classical music competition features four divisions:
voice; piano; strings; and winds, brass, percussion, harp and guitar. Over
$23,000 in prize money and performance opportunities will be awarded.
The finalists concert and awards will be held on March 14 at 7:30 p.m. The
evening performance and final round of the competition is a featured event of
the Montgomery County Performing Arts Society’s regular season. Two finalists from each division are selected to perform in
the Finalists’ Concert in Conroe’s historic Crighton Theatre, where the final judging takes place and awards are
presented.
Concert tickets are $22 and will be available at the Crighton Theatre Box

nam volunteer opportunities
Northwest Assistance Ministries has volunteer opportunities available for
individuals who want to help families in need and make the community a better
place for everyone.
The Meals on Wheels Program needs drivers who are willing to volunteer at least
two hours a month delivering hot meals to homebound seniors and disabled
individuals.
NAM’s resale shops and donation centers need volunteers to help sort, price and tag
donations, as well as provide customer service and sales. Volunteers are needed
at the warehouse, the store at 3645 FM 1960 and the store at Jones Road and
Fallbrook.
NAM’s Information and Technology department also has an on-going need for IT
hardware volunteers.
The Children’s Clinic has opportunities for weekday assistance to pull and refile medical
records as well as perform other general office duties. Training will be
provided.
The Food Pantry needs weekday assistance to sort and shelve incoming food
donations, prepare grocery sacks for Saturday Meals on Wheels deliveries, and
to take telephone food orders. Potential volunteers are required to attend an
orientation session that is offered from 9 a.m.-11 a.m. on the first and third
Thursday of each month at NAM’s main building, 15555 Kuykendahl.
