2009 art and wine festival, march 6-8
The 2009 Art and Wine Festival will be held on March 6-8 in Old Town Spring.
Several Texas wineries will offer tastes of some of their finest wines. Visit
with talented artists who will be showing off their original art or enjoy
shopping in the more than 150 unique shops.
five who share service of excellence awards luncheon, march 13
The 2009 Five Who Share Service of Excellence Awards luncheon will be presented
by Interfaith of The Woodlands on March 13 from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at The
Woodlands Resort & Conference Center.
State Representative Rob Eissler is the honorary chair of this year’s event and Nelda Luce Blair will serve as emcee.
Nomination forms are available at Interfaith of The Woodlands or go to
www.woodlandsinterfaith.org. The deadline for nominations is Feb. 4. Nominees
must perform their volunteer work in the zip codes of 77380-77386, 77389 and
77385 in the Village of Creekside Park and 77354 and 77355 in the Village of
Sterling Ridge.

MARKET STREET FINE ART SHOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS, until march 31
Artists of The Woodlands can reserve exhibit space for the annual Market Street
Fine Art Show set for April 25 from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. on West Market Street near Johnny Rockets.
Exhibitors can rent booth space to display paintings, woodwork, sculptures,
glass, mixed media and other works of art.

Operation military embrace charity golf tournament, march 26
The first annual Operation Military Embrace Charity Golf Tournament will be held
on March 26 at High Meadow Ranch Golf Club, 37300 Golf Club Trail in Magnolia.
This four-man scramble event begins with registration at 10 a.m. and a shotgun
start at 1 p.m. Dinner and awards will begin at 6 p.m.
The cost is $125 a player of $500 for a foursome. The price includes golf,
lunch, dinner, goodie bags, silent auction and raffle prices.
OME provides much needed financial, motivational and moral support to wounded
patients at San Antonio’s Brooke Army Medical Center.

jazzy junque and other great stuff sale
New Danville will host the Jazzy Junque & Other Great Stuff sale from March 27-29 at the Outlets at Conroe shopping
center located off I-45 at League Line Road. (exit 91).
Event volunteers are seeking donations of unwanted items that are in good and
working condition by March 1. Items sought include: furniture, home accessories, electronics, sporting goods,
housewares, infant/children’s items, art, garden/patio items, jewelry/boutique items, seasonal decorations,
collectibles, tools and antiques. As a courtesy to Outlets of Conroe retailers,
clothing cannot be accepted except for boutique items.
Donation receipts will be provided for tax deduction purposes. Two Men and a
Truck moving company is donating services to help pick up items. All proceeds
raised from the Jazzy Junque sales will benefit New Danville.
Parade of Floats Launches
The Woodlands Waterway
Arts Festival
The Floating Art Parade gets under way at The Woodlands Waterway Arts Festival
on April 4 in conjunction with the opening day of the festival. The parade
features floating art pieces created and designed by local businesses and
organizations. The floats parade down The Waterway from Town Green Park to The
Woodlands Waterway Marriott Hotel and then parade back towards Town Green Park.
The floats remain moored for public viewing throughout the festival.
Participants are asked to design and create a float reflecting this year’s theme “Outer Space.” The best entry receives The Waterway Cup, a unique piece of art designed by one
of the festival artists. Festival jurors vote for the best entry.
The Woodlands Waterway Arts Festival features more than 200 national and
regional artists of various mediums selling their original creations. Festival
hours are 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $10
for adults. Children 12 and under are admitted free of charge.
student State-Fish Art
Contest, deadline march 31
The deadline for entering the Texas State-Fish Art Contest is March 31.
Texas students who enter the contest can win prizes of up to $1,000. Entries are
judged in three grade-level divisions: 4-6, 7-9 and 10-12.
Thanks to funding from the Toyota Texas Bass Classic, the three first-place
winners from Texas receive financial assistance for travel to Minneapolis,
Minn., to compete in the national competition.

contest.
Home-schooled students are also eligible to enter.
teen support group, mondays
Vanessa Gonzales, Hispanic outreach specialist, and Cynthia Martinez, education
specialist, are offering a teen support group through the Montgomery County
Women’s Center.
The group meets Monday evenings from 7 p.m.-8:30 p.m. at 1600 Lake Front Circle
in The Woodlands. Female teens, between the ages of 13 and 17, who are victims
and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault are invited to
participate. The group meeting is free of charge.
