YMCA Musical Theater/
Performing Arts Program
The YMCAs Musical Theater/Performing Arts program will begin on Feb. 3. Activities will include dancing, singing, acting, stage construction and team work.
Students in kindergarten-12th grade are eligible to register. One 90-minute class is held each week. There are no extra rehearsals outside of class. Registration fee includes instruction and participation in acting, singing, dancing, set design and stagecraft; free rehearsal CD and script.
Students will be working on selections from High School Musical 3. Older students, ages 11 -18 may choose to focus on selections from Legally Blonde, the Musical. There will be a public performance in May.
Class times are Tuesday, 3:50 p.m.-5:20 p.m. for ages 5-9; Thursday, 4:15 p.m.-5:45 p.m. for ages 9-18; and a Saturday class for all ages from 2 p.m.-3:30 p.m. Older students who chose Legally Blonde will meet on Saturday, 3:30 p.m.-5 p.m.

fuel’s got talent
The South Montgomery County YMCA will host FUEL’s Got Talent on Feb. 6 from
7 p.m.-10 p.m.
All junior high and senior high students are invited to watch students battle it out for the $500 grand prize.
Fuel, sponsored by the YMCA and local churches, is a Christian-based, hype oriented event designed for students to get away, have a blast and experience God in a whole new way featuring live music, video games, basketball, climbing wall, inflatables, giveaways and much more.

babysitter training course, feb. 7
A Babysitter Training Course will be held on Feb. 7 from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at the Branch Crossing YMCA, 8100 Ashlane Way.
Taught by the American Red Cross, this class teaches babysitting skills including handling emergencies and preventing accidents.

barbara bush library upcoming events, feb. 8, 11, 15
The Barbara Bush Branch Library and the E.B.O.N.Y. organization will join forces for the 20th Annual African American Read-In. Activities are planned for adults, teens and children on Feb. 8 from 2 p.m.-4 p.m. Kathy Culmer, author and storyteller, will be the featured guest for the children. She will tell African and African-American folk tales. There will also be other activities for the children. Authors Reshonda Tate Billingsley, Gwen Richardson and Oswald Scott are some of the featured guests for this event. Come, discuss and hear excerpts from their various novels.
Join local author Fran Padgett for an open discussion of her second book Breast Cancer: No One Chose This Journey on Feb. 11 and Feb. 15 from 2 p.m.-4 p.m. Padgett will also display selected paintings featured in her book.These emotion-laden, often symbolic works are from two of her private collections, the Gift of Time series, and Other side of the Mountain series.

 guild meeting, feb. 3
The Tall Pine Weavers and Spinners Guild will meet on Feb. 3 at 7 p.m. in the Education Building of Northwoods  Presbyterian Church, 3320 FM 1960 West.
View a screening of selected takes from the recently-purchased DVD, Color Interaction. This DVD addresses specific color interaction issues within handweaving, but is applicable to many other crafts, including spinning, knitting and crochet.
Tall Pines is also presenting the workshop, Refining Your Spinning Wheel Skills, on Feb. 28 and March 1. Anita Pirog is an experienced spinner, weaver and enjoys dying her own yarn.

Friends of Texas Wildlife  
VOLUNTEERS needed
Friends of Texas Wildlife needs to recruit additional volunteers to help care for the increasing numbers of animals it is receiving. During 2008, nearly three times as many animals were taken in (raccoons, possums, squirrels and fawns) than are normally received in a year.

the Woodlands Area Quilt Guild, feb. 4
The Woodlands Area Quilt Guild meets the first Wednesday of each month at The Woodlands Community Center, 2235 Lake Robbins Dr. Social time starts at 6:30 p.m.  and the business meeting at 7 p.m.
The Guild explores the wonderful world of quilting by offering monthly speakers and classes by nationally known teachers, involvement with various community projects including Camp For All and organizing smaller bees. Guests are always welcome.

Computer Classes at the Library, during february
Dave Smith, computer instructor, will be teaching seven different computer classes at the Barbara Bush Branch Library in February The classes are computer basics, Introduction to the Internet, e-mail, MS Word, MS Excel, PowerPoint and Publisher. Each class meets for one 2-hour session. As class size is limited to 12 people, pre-registration is required for each class. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. Call the library at 281-376-4610 for more information and to register for a class. The classes are held in the Barbara Bush Library Friends Computer Lab. CPR Class, feb. 5
A CPR Class will be held on Feb. 5 from 6 p.m.-10 p.m. at the South Montgomery County YMCA, 6145 Shadowbend Place.
This class will teach you how to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and provides American Heart Certification for adult, infant and child.
