Hundreds of participants stepped out at the American Heart Association’s Heart Walk to help raise $167,000 to support lifesaving research and
educational programs.
This year’s event was a huge success as it exceeded its goal of raising $125,000—thanks to the efforts of many sponsors, volunteers, corporate teams and
individuals.
The Heart Walk gives community members the opportunity to promote physical
activity and awareness of the nation’s top killers: cardiovascular diseases and stroke. The leading cause of death in
Montgomery County is heart disease followed by stroke at number three.
The top corporate teams were Tetra Technologies raising $22,000, Lexicon
Pharmaceuticals with $17,000 and Houston Northwest Medical Center with $10,000.
Jason Ray from Lexicon Pharmaceuticals was the top team captain raising $5,000
for his team.
The top walkers were Dane Broussard with Tetra raising $3,300, Sara McKay from
Woodforest Bank with $2,500 and Bill Dixon from Hewitt who raised $2,475.
Local sponsors included Metzger Construction, Tom Pisula Development, St. Luke’s The Woodlands Hospital, Memorial Herman – The Woodlands, Anadarko, TETRA, LDH Energy and Houston Northwest Medical
Center. Additional sponsors included BMW of Houston North; Browne Penland McGregor
Architects; Hewitt Associates; Huntsman Corporation; Orgain, Bell & Tucker, LLP; and Conroe Regional Medical Center.
The American Heart Association raises money to fight the nation’s leading cause of death and the number-one congenital birth defect, heart
disease. Funding from the AHA goes to public and professional educational
programs in the community and to research to fight heart disease and stroke. To
