Designs add detail
and style to
classic Southern
Colonial home

The inspiration for the design behind Gwen Redman’s powder room was the façade of the home itself. “Colonial interiors featured wallpaper and brighter colors shown in the shell toile paper. Elegant beauty radiates through the barely visible white patterns in the softly lighted Concetto natural white crystal countertop handmade from individually cut semi-precious stones, ” Redman said. The ceiling is a natural embossed leather treatment. Accessories included a recycled aluminum bird dish that cradled Anali linen hand towels and natural soaps. This timeless bath is finished with a decorative glass vessel sink and polished nickel faucet. Simple yet elegant sconces add to the serenity of the space.
The upstairs parlor was created by Diana Walker who boldly tackled the challenge of making a diminutive room look and feel larger. “The success of the design for this room’s size was to encase the room with trim details that compliment the home’s traditional elegance. My solution was to design wall to wall, full-height bookcases that would visually and functionally enlarge storage and display possibilities, and add seating space, ” Walker said. As an upstairs living area for guests or family, the room is great for reading, working or just visiting. Unique artwork, decorative lighting and a functional seating arrangement carefully balanced the color scheme of spice, gold and grey. The bright plaid window coverings and colors duplicated throughout the room add dramatic impact and visually deepen the width of the room. The result is a happy, welcoming, relaxing multi-use room.                               continued next page
