YMCA’s SilverSneakers Fitness Program
The Montgomery County YMCAs offer a variety of wellness programs for the active
older adult to get fit, have fun, be healthy, stay independent and make new
friends.
The SilverSneakers Fitness Program is designed to help seniors improve their
health and is provided at no additional cost by Medicare and Medicare
Supplement health plan carriers that are part of the SilverSneakers program.
One of the many benefits of the program is a free membership to the YMCA. For

The Houston Symphony’s annual Sounds Like Fun! series returns with free public concerts at locations
throughout Houston. A relaxed and dynamic experience designed for the whole
family to enjoy, each performance comes with pre-concert access to the
Instrument Petting Zoo, which gives children of all ages the chance to try
their hand at performing an orchestral instrument.
This year, thrill to the adventures of brave princes and magical firebirds as
the symphony performs music illustrating Russian folk tales. Associate
Conductor Robert Franz or Assistant Conductor/American Conducting Fellow Brett
Mitchell draw younger listeners into a deeper appreciation of symphonic music
by leading interactive discussions from the stage.
Performances during the month include: June 1 at 7:30 p.m. at Kingwood Park High
School, 4015 Woodland Hills Drive, Kingwood; June 9 at 7:30 p.m., The Centrum,
6823 Cypresswood Drive, Spring; June 10 at 7:30 p.m. at First United Methodist

recycle old phone books and benefit County food bank
Consolidated Communications invites all Montgomery County residents to recycle
old phone books through June 2009. Proceeds from the recycle effort will
benefit the Montgomery County Food Bank, which is expected to furnish more than
3 million pounds of food to Montgomery County residents this year.
Individuals or groups may bring phone books to the Consolidated office at 350 S.
Loop 336 West in Conroe. A designated AbitibiBowater recycle bin will be in the
parking lot until June.
Citizens are urged to launch a grass roots collection effort in neighborhoods,
churches, schools and offices. The more phone books recycled, the more benefit
to the Food Bank.

Martial Arts Friday: Capoeira on June 19 at 10:30 a.m. Learn the basics of this
martial art taught by The Brazilian, Arts Foundation.

Chi will teach on the theory and basics of Tai Chi.
Mad Science on June 20 at 1 p.m. See what happens when you combine Mentos and
Diet Coke. This class will take place outside and

Teen Tie Dye on June 24 at 6:30 p.m. Use sharpies and rubbing alcohol to make
beautiful designs. Bring a pre-washed white T-shirt. Registration is required.

The Museum Fine Arts Houston will host an exhibition of award-winning student
art entitled
Start with Art Learn for Life: The MFAH and TAEA Celebrate Youth Art Month until Aug. 2 at the museum in the Caroline Wiess Law Building.
The exhibition, a collaboration between the MFAH and the Texas Art Education
Association, features 24 works by k-12 students from the region who have been
selected as judge
’s choice winners.
View inspiring creativity by the area’s young artists. Students have created works of art in charcoal, pastel,
watercolor, digital media and more. The exhibition can be seen during the
museum
’s hours of operation and is free with the price of admission.
