Scene in TheWoodlands with Missy Herndon
It has been such a pleasure writing this column for you each month. I hope you enjoy seeing your friends and neighbors out and and about, as much as I enjoy covering them in the magazine. As we move into summer activities, parties and fundraisers, drop me a line, some details or photos by e-mail at missyherndon@yahoo.com, so that you too can be “Scene in The Woodlands!”

“March for Babies”
Teams of friends, families and co-workers joined together at Lone Star College on a beautiful, sunny Sunday to become champions for pregnancy and healthy babies at the recent “March for Babies Walk.” The premier fundraising event for March of Dimes was an incredible and inspiring event, as those walking celebrated baby angels who were here and honored those who passed away.

The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion Reopens!
With much anticipation, The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion reopened just in time to celebrate its 20th season. Renovations to the venue started in December 2008 and have been completed in time for The Pavilion ’s 20th season. Crowds swarmed the area to hear The Dave Matthews Band open for The Pavilion early last month.

Interfaith of The Woodlands
After providing more than 28,000 hours of service to Interfaith in 2008, volunteers received a heartfelt “thanks” from the organization at its annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon. More than150 people gathered at Interfaith of The Woodlands enjoying a meal from Katz Deli and entertainment from The Jamming Group and The Woodlands Sweethearts. This year, volunteers have already donated 9,856 hours, equaling 411 days of service!

Could you imagine the size of closet housing 800 pairs of shoes? How about the size of the smiles of the folks receiving the shoes? Volunteers at Interfaith of The Woodlands will have to tell us when they share the recent donation made by the Woodlands Church. Churchgoers were asked to “give the shoes off their feet” and donate them to individuals in crisis. With more than 1,600 shoes in tow, they answered the calling.
27. Dr. Ann Snyder, president and CEO, and the Family Services Staff of Interfaith of The Woodlands show off a portion of the 800-pairs shoe collection.

Interfaith’s Senior Grocery Delivery Program is up and running, providing grocery bags “stuffed to the rim” with non-perishable food and a bag full of fresh fruit and vegetables to home-bound seniors living at Copperwood and Harvestwood Senior Complexes, The Woodlands. More than 30 senior adults received the first delivery.
29. Two senior adults from Copperwood Apartments receive full bags of groceries from an Interfaith volunteer.
Stock up on some extra pencils, papers and backpacks and prepare to give back at Interfaith ’s annual Back to School Drive. The organization is gearing up to provide school supply assistance to help families who are experiencing financial need with purchasing school supplies for the 2009-2010 school year. The Back to School Drive kicks off this month.
