Crescent Moon hosts drive for Women’s Center. Rodney Anderson, owner of Crescent Moon Wine Bar, hosted a toiletries drive for the Montgomery County Women ’s Center whereby loyal guests of the wine bar brought various items to donate to the center ’s emergency shelter where battered and abused women and their children reside.
There has been a 240 percent spike in requests for emergency shelter in the state of Texas due to the economic downturn and job loss in this last year alone, ” said Donna Wick, director of outreach and communications for the agency.

Molly Maid makes clean sweep for Women's Center.  Donna Wick, director of outreach and communications for Montgomery County Women’s Center, accepted a check donation from Jim Brown, owner of Molly Maid of The Woodlands.
Each year, Brown and his team collect funds from customers and staff to support the agency that serves victims and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.

Red Robin Partners With MCWC. Harold Wise, general manager of Red Robin America’s Gourmet Burgers & Spirits, has joined an alliance partnership with Montgomery County Women’s Center.
Red Robin will host various teen events for the agency and cater an upcoming event in May as the Women ’s Center hosts a conference at Lone Star Convention Center for the Texas Council on Family Violence.
Red Robin is also offering a discount on meals for anyone who brings in canned good item for the Women ’s Center food pantry. Red Robin is located at 19433 I-45 in Shenandoah.

Woodlands Car Club revs up donations. Woodforest Charitable Foundation made a check presentation to three local nonprofit agencies that serve Montgomery County: The Montgomery County Women ’s Center, The Friendship Center and Montgomery County Youth Services.
The check presentation took place at the city of Shenandoah’s City Council meeting and the donation was made possible through the efforts of The Woodlands Car Club, generating more than $9,000 from local car shows.

st. luke’s hosts Breast Cancer Awareness Tea. St. Luke’s The Woodlands Hospital with M.D. Anderson Radiation Treatment Center in The Woodlands held an inaugural “Be Aware Breast Cancer Awareness Tea & Luncheon.” Women community leaders were treated to lunch highlighted by keynote speaker Dr. Therese B. Bevers, medical director of clinical prevention and prevention outreach programs at The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, who presented the facts about the importance of being proactive in breast screening via routine mammogram and self breast examinations. A special survivor testimonial was given by Margaret Looper, breast cancer survivor and M.D. Anderson volunteer.

Junior League accepting applications for 2010 Community assistance funds.  The Junior League of North Harris and South Montgomery Counties Inc. is accepting applicants for the Community Assistance/ Emergency Relief Fund. The 2010 Community Assistance Fund requests must be submitted by April 1, 2010. Selected organizations will be notified, and funds will be awarded on May 18. Emergency Relief Fund requests may be submitted any time during the year.

Assistance League provides essentials for Women in Shelter. The Assistance League of Montgomery County delivered packets of “essentials” containing flips-flops, razors, sweat pants, T-shirts, deodorant and other

Woodforest Welcomes Hundreds to Hot On! Homes event. Nearly 600 Realtors, local dignitaries and residents were hot on Woodforest last month as they visited the community for a home tour extravaganza, $10,000 in prizes and a chance to be on television.
Hosted by Woodforest, D.R. Horton Homes and Hot On! Homes, the event showcased the builder’s model and 13 new homes available in the community. Realtors and other guests sipped on food and wine and had a chance to tour D.R. Horton ’s mix of homes in Woodforest as well as be interviewed by the Hot On! Homes film crew for a show.
