wine & art festival
The 12th Annual Wine & Art Festival will be held on March 6-7 in Old Town Spring. This is a two-day celebration of Texas wineries and artists. Enjoy several Texas wineries as they offer tastes of some of their finest wines. Visit with talented artists who will display their original art in the artists pavilion. Also, there are more than 150 unique shops that line the streets of the charming village.
Artist booths will be open10 a.m.-6 p.m. and wine tastings will be held from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. on Saturday and noon-4 p.m. on Sunday. The festival is free. Wine tasting tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the gate and include one commemorative wine glass and five tastings per ticket.

young texas artists music competition
The Montgomery County Performing Arts Society will host the 26th annual Young Texas Artists Music Competition at the Crighton Theatre in Conroe from March 11-13. The competition, an official music contest of the state of Texas, offers four divisions: voice; piano; strings; and winds, brass, percussion, harp and guitar.
Chris Johnson, host of KUHF-FM’s Afternoon Concert will emcee the awards event on Saturday evening. Artistic director for the contest is Emelyne Bingham.
The three-day event is open to musical artists, ages 18-30, who are Texas residents or students enrolled in a Texas college or music school. To apply for the competition, go to www.youngtexasartists.org.

The Woodlands Crawfish Festival
The first The Woodlands Crawfish Festival is slated for March 27 at Town Green Park in The Woodlands from 11 a.m.-6 p.m.
The event is a new community partnership between the Pulmonary Hypertension Association ’s local fundraiser, Cure PH and The Chamber’s Young Professionals Network. The two committees are bringing together their previous crawfish boil events to unite for The Woodlands Crawfish Festival.
Event attendees will enjoy crawfish, fried alligator, jambalaya, desserts and a variety of refreshments while listening to the sounds of a live zydeco band. A designated children ’s area will feature a variety of activities including a giant bouncing moonwalk, snow cones and popcorn.

heritage festival
The 10th Annual Tomball German Heritage Festival will be held March 26-28 on the old downtown streets of Tomball near 201 S. Elm St., Main Street (FM 2920) and Market Street. This music/street festival celebrates German and ethnic heritage with four stages of live music entertainment, ethnic and festival food, beer, wine, 150 street vendors, German souvenirs and clothing, arts and crafts, antiques, fireworks, carnival, petting zoo, street performers and much more.
Admission to the festival is free, and the carnival opens Thursday evening with a special price for the “all you can ride”armband. On Friday from 6 p.m.-10 p.m. the music begins. Saturday is the “tapping of the keg” from 10 a.m.-10 p.m. The music and dancing go on all day and into the night, with a fireworks display at 9 p.m. at Tomball ’s newly restored Train Depot Plaza on the festival grounds. The Biergartens open at noon on Sunday and the celebration goes on from 10 a.m.-6 p.m.

girl scout cookie sales
Girl Scout cookie sales are under way with eight varieties available including: Thin Mints, Peanut Butter Patties, Peanut Butter Sandwiches, Shortbread, Thanks-A-Lot, Caramel deLites, Lemonades and Daisy Go-Rounds. Cookies are $3.50 a box.
Girl Scout Cookies will be sold at cookie booths outside of grocery stores and other retail venues until March 27. There is also a toll-free cookie hotline at 1-888-GS-COOKIE to find the nearest Girl Scout cookie booth.
mcwco presents women of distinction luncheon
The Montgomery County Women’s Council of Organizations will present this year’s Women of Distinction luncheon, “Humor Therapy for the 21st Century Volunteer,” on Friday, April 30, at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott. Humorist and motivational speaker Marion Peitz will be the featured guest.

The Barbara Bush Library will present a Senior Movie Morning on the first Thursday of each month at 10 a.m. This month ’s movie will be a drama from 1944 starring Fred Mac Murray and Barbara Stanwyck.

Workforce Solutions will present two free workshops at the Barbara Bush Branch in March from 1:30 p.m.-3:30 p.m. On March 4, “Creating References, Cover Letters and Thank You Notes” will teach you how to create a job reference page, cover letter and write a thank you note after the interview.
On March18, the seminar will cover “Evaluating Your Skills and Developing a Job Search Plan.” Determine your marketable skills, learn to communicate your skills and identify employment priorities. The annual Interfaith Spring Luncheon will be held on March 5 at the Woodlands Resort and Conference Center. Being honored at Interfaith ’s “Five Who Share Luncheon” for their significant contribution in making a difference and commitment to our community through their volunteerism are: Bob and Pat Huck, Seniors; Maury and Sue Lupini, Health; Pat and Guy Klingensmith, Health; Joe McKinney, Fine Arts; Jack Stibbs, Youth; and Alan Struble, Education. The recipients will receive the Service of Excellence Award.

The Woodlands Car Club meets on the first Sunday of each month from 10 a.m.-noon at Market Street – The Woodlands, between Jasper’s and the movie theater.  
The meets provide an opportunity to gather and show off special vehicles within the car club and the local community and share information about needful nonprofit organizations in Montgomery County.
TWCC will collect coins/change for its donation to the Market Street “Change for Charities” program that will benefit non-profit organizations in Montgomery County.

Stage Right of Texas will present COLE, An Entertainment based on the Words and Music of Cole Porter devised by Benny Green and Alan Strachan until March 7 at the Crighton Theatre in downtown Conroe. A lively musical based on the life of the legendary composer Cole Porter, COLE tells Porter’s life story through his own music.

The Evening Book Club will meet on March 9 at 7 p.m. at the Barbara Bush Branch Library. The group will discuss The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane by Katherine Howe. The selection for April is Hotel at the Corner of Bitter and Sweet by Jamie Ford.

“JUNCTION BOYS” TO BE HONORED
AT BENEFIT FOR TEXAS CHILDREN’S
CANCER CENTER, april 27
Celebrating one of Texas football’s greatest stories, Texas Children’s Cancer Center hosts its sixth annual “An Evening with Texas Legends,” presented by Wells Fargo honoring 20 Texas A&M University “Junction Boys.” The football heroes will be interviewed live by legendary sportswriter Mickey Herskowitz.
Live interviews with 20 of Texas A&M’s “Junction Boys” will delve deep into their journeys as Texas A&M football players. They will provide extraordinary insight into their personal experiences during the 10 grueling days at the now-famous summer football camp coached by Paul “Bear” Bryant in Junction, Texas in 1954.
The event is planned for Tuesday, April 27, at The Hilton Americas Hotel, beginning with a cocktail reception at 6:15 p.m., dinner at 7:30 p.m. and interviews at 8:30 p.m.
Chaired by Susan and Steven Solcher, proceeds benefit pediatric cancer research conducted at Texas Children ’s Cancer Center, the number one pediatric cancer center in Texas.
