golden retrievers need permanent and temporary homes
Golden Retriever Rescue of Houston needs foster and adoptive homes for goldens in need. They can be provided with a temporary foster home or a permanent adoptive home. Volunteers are also needed in all aspects of the rescue.
The first Saturday of each month GRRH holds a meet and greet at Orvis Sporting Goods, 9595 Six Pines, STE 500,The Woodlands, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
The third Saturday of each month a meet and greet is held at Orvis Sporting Goods, 5727 Westheimer, Houston, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

Spring will be hopping in Woodforest as the community hosts its first Easter egg hunt on March 27 at 10 a.m. at the Woodforest Welcome Lodge. Festivities will include age-specific hunts, pictures with the Easter bunny and giveaways. For more information, visit www.woodforestdev.com.

the woodlands announces inaugural
golf tournament
Get your clubs ready! The Woodlands will have a golf tournament to call its own as The Inaugural Woodlands Golf Champion-ship and Community Scramble swings into action.
With The Woodlands own Roland Thatcher, PGA tour professional, serving as honorary chair, The Woodlands Golf Championship will feature 96 amateur players competing in a 36-hole stroke play competition. All amateur players will compete on Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 30 and Aug. 31 at both the Fazio Course of The Club at Carlton Woods and the Tournament Course of The Woodlands Country Club.
Each amateur player must qualify and either live or work in The Woodlands or belong to Carlton Woods, The Woodlands or Canongate golf clubs. The field consists of different divisions comprised of post high school age and older participants.
Proceeds from the event will benefit Interfaith of The Woodlands.

woodlands ladies club
luncheon, march 10
March is Red Cross Month, and the Greater Houston Area Red Cross is bringing its premier Tiffany Circle Society to the north Harris area, including Montgomery County and The Woodlands. The Circle is partnering with The Woodlands Ladies Club to celebrate with a formal luncheon at Augusta Pines Country Club on March 10 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
Celebration festivities will include a special presentation by Carolyn Pope, circle chair for the Greater Houston Area Red Cross. Pope is a founding member of Houston ’s Circle and will share exciting vignettes about her Circle trips to events in New York and Washington, D.C. There will also be drawings for door prizes, including a premier Red Cross “disaster proof” emergency radio, Red Cross teddy bears and centerpieces.  
Membership is open to any woman who wants to share her time, talent and treasure with the community through the American Red Cross.

The Woodlands Convention & Visitors Bureau has launched an online tool that consolidates the hundreds of concerts, community events, festivals, athletic competitions and other gatherings held in The Woodlands into a single events calendar.
To access the TWCVB’s Online Community Event Calendar, go to www.VisitTheWoodlands.com and click on the “events” tab. Events are listed on the corresponding dates along with a link to additional information.
The Online Community Event Calendar currently includes events hosted by The Woodlands Chamber of Commerce, The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, Market Street, The Woodlands Development Company, The Woodlands Township Parks and Recreation Department and TWCVB.
Other groups are encouraged to submit their events for posting to the TWCVB’s calendar. In order to be posted, events must be open to the public and held in The Woodlands.


Tax Prep Assistance for
Seniors, Through april 15
In order to make income tax preparation a little bit easier for seniors, The Friendship Center is offering assistance with IRS forms to those over age 60. Volunteers will assist seniors each Monday through April 15 at The Friendship Center ’s Conroe location, 1202 Callahan Ave., between the hours of 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Those seeking assistance should bring all documents needed for this year ’s return, as well as their copy of last year’s tax return.
Seniors elsewhere in the community can also access help in a variety of locations with transportation available through The Friendship Center. Assistance is available on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at Lone Star College, 102 Longview in Conroe. In Willis, volunteers will be at the Meador Branch Library at 709 W. Montgomery on Mondays from 9 a.m.- noon and Thursdays from 2 p.m.-7 p.m.
Help will be available in The Woodlands at the South Regional Library at 2101 Lake Robbins Drive on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. In New Caney, seniors can visit Kingwood College at 21575 Highway 59, next to the library, on Mondays and Thursdays from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Magnolia residents can visit the Malcolm Purvis Library at 510 Melton St., on Tuesdays from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

Stage Right of Texas will present the Southern comedy Dearly Beloved from April 16-May 2 at the Crighton Theatre in Conroe.
In Dearly Beloved, the Futrelle sisters’ plans for a Southern wedding blow hilariously off-course with its Gone With The Wind theme and pot-luck reception. Thrown into the whirlwind are a missing bride and groom and one sister ’s desperate attempt to get her boyfriend of 15 years to march her down the aisle. It is a fast-paced farce about love, marriage, sisterhood, gospel music and 300 pounds of finger lickin ’ Texas barbecue.

Montgomery County Women’s Center will host its annual WineFest fundraiser on April 22 at Macy’s Furniture Store located at The Woodlands Mall. This year’s theme is The Grape Gatsby.

MARKET STREET FINE ART SHOW accepting applications for
artists, until march 26
Artists of The Woodlands can reserve exhibit space to showcase artwork at the annual Market Street Fine Art Show scheduled for April 24 from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. around the Central Park area.
This year, exhibitors can purchase tented booth space to display paintings, woodwork, sculptures, glass, mixed media and other works of art.
Market Street’s Fine Art Show is open to artists living in The Woodlands. Applications and event policies are available at www.marketstreet-thewoodlands.com.

jazzy junque benefit, march 26-28
New Danville will host “Jazzy Junque and Other Great Stuff” at the Outlets at Conroe the last weekend in March. All proceeds from sales of donated items will benefit New Danville, a community for adults with mild intellectual and/or developmental disabilities.

friendship center meals
on wheels needs volunteers
Everyday somewhere in Montgomery County approximately 50 Friendship Center volunteers are serving the needs of the senior population of the county.
But even with more than 300 volunteers actively providing their services each and every year, The Friendship Center is in desperate need of additional volunteers, especially in its Meals on Wheels program and for its telephone reassurance program.
In the past three years, the number of seniors on the Meals on Wheels program has doubled, and the need for volunteers to deliver meals in all areas of the county is greater than ever before.
The Friendship Center offers a two-hour volunteer training program that provides basic information on aging issues as well as tips on working with seniors in the various volunteer capacities. Trainings are scheduled twice a month, once in Conroe and once in The Woodlands.

The Woodlands Waterway Arts Festival is set to hold its fifth annual event April 10-11. The festival is a juried fine art show featuring 200 national and regional artists in 14 mediums selling their original creations. Festival hours are 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.  
Features of the festival include interactive art activities for children in Town Green Park, student art exhibitions by public and private schools in Montgomery County, entertainment on two stages and dining selections.
