Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Hospital has expanded its facility by 30,797 square feet and 36 beds in response to the increasing demand for higher acuity care within its facility and the growing community. The $6.1 million expansion, which opened on Feb. 2, brings the hospital ’s total bed count to 252.
The new Intermediate Care Unit beds will house medical or surgical patients with moderate to severe physiologic instability, which can include patients with cardiac, neurological or respiratory problems. These patients typically require less care than is provided in the Intensive Care Unit, but a higher level of care than can be provided on a standard medical or surgical unit.
The private beds, arranged into three “neighborhoods” of 12 rooms each, provide around-the-clock electrocardiogram and blood pressure monitoring. Additionally, the rooms are staffed by specially trained registered nurses with support provided by patient care assistants and unit clerks.
Gil Staley will assume the position of Chief Executive Officer for the South Montgomery County Woodlands Economic Development Partnership effective Aug. 31, 2009, upon the retirement of current EDP CEO Ron Bourbeau.
According to EDP chairman Clyde Parker, the board has taken this step for the purpose of succession planning to assure that the EDP is prepared to continue servicing the needs of the South Montgomery County area for years to come.
Chairman Parker noted, “The Economic Development Partnership has been ably managed over the past 10 years by CEO Ron Bourbeau, who will be retiring at the end of August. Gil ’s background and experience, including the past several years with the EDP, most recently as its chief operating officer, have uniquely prepared him to assume the role of chief executive upon Ron ’s retirement. This action reflects the high regard in which Gil is held in the eyes of the board and the partners of the EDP. ”
Montgomery County’s new Woodforest development has begun lot sales in Phase 1, which encompasses 240 homesites split among two custom and two production home neighborhoods. Custom builders starting work on both private and showcase homes include Jeff Paul Custom Homes, George Weaver Inc., Meadowlark Custom Homes and J.M. Wendell Inc. Custom homes will be priced from the $750,000s to more than $1 million.
Production builders include Southern Mark Homes, Plantation Homes, Pulte Homes and Newmark Homes. They will offer designs from the $210,000s on 55- and 65-foot homesites in the Overland Trace neighborhood and from the $450,000s on 70- and 80-foot homesites in Monarch Park. Work also is under way on two lake parks and a neighborhood park scheduled to open this spring.
Also visible is the progress on Lake Creek Bridge and Fish Creek Thoroughfare, the major roadway leading into Woodforest. The thoroughfare, which will extend to FM 2854 and eventually to State Highway 105, provides a north-south alternative to Interstate Highway 45, significantly increasing accessibility within the county. The thoroughfare and bridge are on track to open in early 2009, coinciding with the opening of the model homes.
Also slated to open fully by spring 2009 is The Welcome Lodge, the community’s Information and Homefinder Center. Designed as a 6,200-square-foot custom home overlooking Woodforest Golf Club, the facility offers complete information on homebuilder's, planned amenities, the overall development plan and much more.
In addition to Woodforest Golf Club, a 27-hole championship course that has won much acclaim from the local and statewide golfing industry, the 3,000-acre Woodforest community will offer abundant amenities: a resort-style recreation center/swimming complex, with multiple pools, water slides, spraygrounds and more. Lighted tennis courts are planned, as are playgrounds, an outdoor event lawn and sports fields. In all, residents will enjoy more than 29 acres of lakes, 25 miles of hike-and-bike trails and more than 700 acres dedicated to parks, green space and sports fields.
Conroe ISD has purchased a 16.16-acre site in Woodforest, slated to become the community ’s first on-site school, an elementary school, estimated to start construction in 2011 and open a year later. The district has an option to purchase an additional 15 acres within Woodforest.
