EfTA SEEKING VOLUNTEERS
Education for Tomorrow Alliance is seeking volunteers from the business
community to enhance local education by participating as a CHOICES presenter
this fall. CHOICES is a proven curriculum to teach students that the key to
success is self-discipline, with an emphasis on the importance of graduating
from high school. EfTA trains volunteers to interact with eighth-grade students
in 50- or 90-minute in-classroom presentations using fun activities to show
students how responsible choices increase their options in life. Presentations
will be held at schools in The Woodlands and Conroe, so EfTA needs your help to
reach all of these students.
Program details, exact training times and volunteer registration are available
online at www.efta-us.org.

”
Texas State Rep. Rob Eissler (R-The Woodlands) has been selected as the Texas Classroom Teachers Association
2008-09 Friend of Education in the public official category. TCTA presents the
award annually to honor a public official who has made a significant
contribution to public education in Texas. Recipients must be judged to be true
friends of education, educators and students as demonstrated by leadership,
actions and support.
Eissler served as a member of the Texas House of Representatives since 2003 and
was chair of the House Public Education Committee during the 2007 legislative
session. He currently co-chairs the Select Committee on Public School
Accountability, which recently submitted its final proposed framework for a new
public school accountability system to the Texas Legislature.
In 2007, he was appointed by Gov. Rick Perry to the Education Commission of the
States where he represents Texas as one of seven commissioners, and in 2008, to
serve on the Southern Regional Education board comprising 16 states.
Eissler has led Eissler & Associates, an executive recruiting firm, for more than 25 years. He previously
served 18 years on the Conroe ISD board of trustees, including two terms as
president, and has mentored public school students on the free enterprise
system.
Eissler was honored on Feb. 6, during the opening session of the association's
annual convention in Austin.
Gary Montgomery, president of Montgomery & Associates Inc., a Houston-based civil engineering and consulting services
firm, joined with company employees to adopt a family for the holidays through
the
Houston Chronicle’s Goodfellows program.
“We were able to adopt a family through Goodfellows, an organization created by
the
Houston Chronicle, to provide new toys to needy families over the holidays,” said Montgomery. “We had an outpouring of support from our employees, and I know the family was
grateful for our help. It really made us appreciate what we have and gave us a
lot of pleasure to see their smiling faces.
”
Montgomery & Associates presented the family with lots of toys for the little boy and new
baby items for the expectant mother. An especially big hit in the gift giving
was a new bed with a Spider Man comforter.
