The Barry Sea Paradox In Concert
Barry and Barbara (Bobbie) Sea (Siegel) are appearing with their group, The
Barry Sea Paradox, every Thursday and Saturday at two Post Oak Grill locations.
One of Texas
’ hottest groups, The Barry Sea Paradox has a hit CD that is played often on
KTSU-FM, KPVU-FM and Ronnie Renfrow
’s Classic Cool radio show on 650 AM. They’ve appeared at many of Texas’ finest clubs playing music they describe as “Smooth Jazz with a Rough Edge Called Soul.” It includes a wide variety of jazz, R&B, oldies, swing and even some country. It’s ideal for dancing, or you can just sit back, listen, and enjoy. The group has
appeared on
Hometown Live on ABC affiliate Channel 13, Great Day Houston on CBS affiliate Channel 11, and Fox Rocks on Channel 26. Performances will be held on Thursdays, 6 p.m.-10 p.m., Post Oak
Grill Cafe (Midtown), 3017 Milam (just north of Elgin); and Saturdays, 8

SPRINGFEST IN OLD TOWN SPRING
The 11th Annual SpringFest, one of the largest wine
exhibition and tasting events in Houston, will take
place in Historic Old Town Spring March 6-8.
Wine enthusiasts are invited to attend this Texas-
style event featuring local wineries showcasing top
Texas wines, microbrewed beer tastings, large
Mesquite craftsmanship exhibition featuring finely
crafted furniture and art, original art-work from local
artists and live entertainment featuring perfor-
mances from Davin James, Shake Russell, jazz
ensembles and more.
The event is free on Friday and Sunday, and $10 on
Saturday after 4 p.m. Wine tasting tickets are $20 in
advance and $25 at the gate. Price includes a commemorative
wine glass and five tastings, with additional tastings available for $1 each.
Proceeds will benefit the Spring Preservation League, a nonprofit foundation
dedicated to the preservation and beautification of Old Town Spring. For more

21st annual gala
The John Cooper School’s 21st Annual Gala is scheduled for March 7 at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott
Hotel and Convention Center.
Since its inception, the gala has evolved into a social event that brings
together The John Cooper School and The Woodlands communities for a fabulous
evening, complete with live and big board auctions, fine dining, music and
dancing.
Committee members are currently soliciting auction donations, table sponsorships

Northwest Assistance Ministries has changed it New Volunteer Orientation times
to accommodate the schedules of more community members. Orientations will now
be held the first Wednesday and the third Thursday of each month at 10 a.m. at
NAM, 15555 Kuykendahl. Upcoming orientation dates are March 4 and March 19.
The orientation includes a tour of the organization, so attendees can select
their ideal placement. Groups and individuals are encouraged to attend.

repurposed and recycled materials art show, march 6
The first Repurposed and Recycled Materials Art Show will be held on March 6 at
Frame Craft Lampros Gallery, 26106 Oak Ridge Drive at 7 p.m.
There will be a silent auction for one of the pieces of art with proceeds going
to an environmental charity. The show will exhibit local art made using
recycled and repurposed objects. Refreshments will be served.

acting 101 class, beginning march 7
Town Center Theatre and The Woodlands Children’s Museum will begin an Acting 101 class on March 7 from 10 a.m.-noon at the
Woodlands Children
’s Museum. There will be six classes per course with the final class and
performance on April 18.
Acting 101 is a basic class in theater that is open to children ages 6 to 12.
Students will be exposed to such elements as mime skills, breathing and
movement techniques, improvisation and basic theater etiquette.
The registration fee is $200 per child and includes instruction and all course
materials and services. The fee is $170 for members of The Woodlands Children
’s Museum.

Rodeo uncorked! champion wine auction and dinner, march 7
The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Wine Auction Committee will host the annual
Champion Wine Auction and Dinner at the Methodist Training Center (across from
Reliant Stadium) on March 7 at 6 p.m.
The event will kickoff with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, featuring more than 200 award-winning wines and a silent auction
featuring various wine-related packages. At 7 p.m., attendees will enjoy a
sumptuous five-course seated dinner, and winning wines will be auctioned to the
highest bidders in the live auction beginning at 8 p.m.
A limited number of reserved tables can be purchased for $2,500, $4,000 or
$7,500. Limited individual tickets are available for $325.
Net proceeds from the auction benefit the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.
Friends of Texas Wildlife
volunteers needed
Friends of Texas Wildlife needs to recruit additional volunteers to help care
for the increasing numbers of animals it is receiving. During 2008, nearly
three times as many animals were taken in (raccoons, possums, squirrels and
fawns) than are normally received in a year.
Computer Classes at the Library, during march
Dave Smith, computer instructor, will be teaching seven different computer
classes at the Barbara Bush Branch Library in February The classes are computer
basics, Introduction to the Internet, e-mail, MS Word, MS Excel, PowerPoint and
Publisher. Each class meets for one 2-hour session. As class size is limited to
12 people, pre-registration is required for each class. Registration is on a
first-come, first-served basis. Call the library at 281-376-4610 for more

Mutt Strutt and Runway Race, march 7
The Houston SPCA and the Houston Airport System are teaming up once again to
host the annual Mutt Strut
& Runway Race sponsored by VCA Animal Hospitals. This event will take place on March 7 on the tarmac at Bush Intercontinental Airport,
where you can run or walk with your favorite four-legged friend.
Check-in begins at 6:30 a.m., and the competitive 5K Runway Race and
non-competitive Mutt Strut both begin at 8 a.m.

There will be pet contests, demonstrations, food, vendor booths and kids
activities. Your pets can strut their stuff in front of a panel of judges in

teen support group, mondays
Vanessa Gonzales, Hispanic outreach specialist, and Cynthia Martinez, education
specialist, are offering a teen support group through the Montgomery County
Women
’s Center.
The group meets Monday evenings from 7 p.m.-8:30 p.m. at 1600 Lake Front Circle
in The Woodlands. Female teens, between the ages of 13 and 17, who are victims
and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault are invited to
participate. The group meeting is free of charge.
