student State-Fish Art Contest
The deadline for entering the Texas State-Fish Art Contest is March 31.
Texas students who enter the contest can win prizes of up to $1,000. Entries are
judged in three grade-level divisions: 4-6, 7-9 and 10-12.
Thanks to funding from the Toyota Texas Bass Classic, the three first-place
winners from Texas receive financial assistance for travel to Minneapolis,
Minn., to compete in the national competition.

contest.
Home-schooled students are also eligible to enter.

jazzy junque and other great stuff sale
New Danville will host the Jazzy Junque & Other Great Stuff sale from March 27-29 at the Outlets at Conroe shopping
center located off I-45 at League Line Road. (exit 91).
Event volunteers are seeking donations of unwanted items that are in good and
working condition by March 1. Items sought include: furniture, home
accessories, electronics, sporting goods, housewares, infant/children
’s items, art, garden/patio items, jewelry/boutique items, seasonal decorations,
collectibles, tools and antiques. As a courtesy to Outlets of Conroe retailers,
clothing cannot be accepted except for boutique items.
Donation receipts will be provided for tax deduction purposes. Two Men and a
Truck moving company is donating services to help pick up items. All proceeds
raised from the Jazzy Junque sales will benefit New Danville.
Woodlands waterway arts festival
The 2008 Woodlands Waterway Arts Festival will be held April 4-5 with original
works of art from more than 200 national and regional artists showcased along
The Woodlands Waterway.
The two-day event kicks off on Saturday with a one-of-a-kind floating art
parade. The floats will be anchored and displayed throughout the festival
weekend.
There’s plenty to do for the kids, including interactive art activities in nearby Town
Green Park. Art exhibitions from Montgomery County students will also be
displayed. This year
’s featured artist is Rod Garrett, an acrylic sculptor from Grant, Fla.
Festival hours are 10 a.m.-8 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. on Sunday.
Admission is $10 for adults; children 12 and under are admitted free.
Spotlight on Local Author Bonner Cutting, March 29
Bonner Cutting will be the featured guest speaker at the Barbara Bush at Cypress
Creek Branch of the Harris County Public Library on March 29 at 2 p.m.
Cutting has studied the question of the authorship of the Shakespeare Canon for
several decades. She is a member of the board of trustees of the Shakespeare
Fellowship and president of the Lone Star Shakespeare Roundtable. She recently
presented papers on the authorship question at Concordia University in
Portland, Ore., at the 2008 conference on authorship studies held in White
Plains, N.Y., and the Shakespeare Authorship Roundtable in Los Angeles, Calif.
Shell Houston Open Volunteers Needed, march 30-april 5
Interfaith of the Woodlands, a core charity of The Shell Houston Open, is
seeking volunteers to help during the event at Redstone Golf Club March
30-April 5.
“Volunteering during the Open is a unique and fun opportunity for local residents
to help those in need within our community,
” stated Dr. Ann Snyder, president and CEO of Interfaith of The Woodlands.
For every volunteer hour, the Houston Golf Association will donate money to
Interfaith of The Woodlands to help children, families and seniors in the area.
All volunteers play an integral part in the success of the tournament, serving
in areas such as the Cart Barn, transporting food and beverages, and selling
programs and pairing sheets. Volunteers will receive a free entry pass to the
Open all week, free lunch the day they work and a Houston Golf Association
T-shirt.

MARKET STREET FINE ART SHOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS, until march 31
Artists of The Woodlands can reserve exhibit space for the annual Market Street
Fine Art Show set for April 25 from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. on
West Market Street near Johnny Rockets.
Exhibitors can rent booth space to display paintings, woodwork, sculptures,
glass, mixed media and other works of art.

volunteers and performers needed for
the woodlands waterway arts festival, april 4-5
The Woodlands Waterway Arts Festival needs volunteers and performers for the
fourth annual event scheduled for April 4-5.
The festival need approximately 700 volunteers over the weekend to assist in
such areas as artist relations, admissions, gate monitors and greeters,
children
’s art activities, souvenirs, student art exhibit, entertainment stages surveys
and more.
Volunteers must work a four-hour shift and, in exchange, will receive free
admission to the festival and a festival T-shirt. Individuals as well as
charity groups and service organizations can volunteer. Volunteers must be 17
or older.
The event is looking also for entertaining performers to perform on stage during
the event. The festival is interested in talented musicians, actors, dance
groups and more to perform. The deadline to apply as a performing artist is
March 8. Performers interested in participating in the festival should complete

aarp tax help, through april 15
AARP volunteers will continue to provide tax preparation assistance to
individuals at the Barbara Bush Branch Library through April 15. Assistance is
provided on a first-come first-served basis and no phone calls are accepted by
the AARP volunteers. The hours are: Mondays 1 p.m.-8 p.m.; Tuesdays noon-4
p.m.; and Saturdays noon-4 p.m. The library is located at 6817 Cypresswood

Stage Right presents Southern Hospitality at the Crighton Theatre in downtown Conroe from April 17-May 2. Performances
will be held on Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m.; and Sunday matinees on April
