With approximately 350 live musical performances scheduled this spring, The
Woodlands has quickly become one of the region
’s top spots for great live music, ranging from the afternoon and after-work
concerts at The Fountains at Waterway Square to the new and improved Cynthia
Woods Mitchell Pavilion and much more.
Every week through June, visitors to The Woodlands can find tunes to satisfy any
musical tastes with 342 events scheduled for April, May and June.
“The Woodlands is quickly emerging as a great destination for live music, from
top recording artists to local jazz groups and individuals,
” says Nick Wolda, president of The Woodlands Convention & Visitors Bureau. “The Woodlands is culturally diverse, and this is evident in the types of music
that will be found in various locations this spring.
”
The Fountains at Waterway Square, with its choreographed fountains located along Waterway Avenue in The Woodlands Town
Center, is the newest live venue.
Some of the featured performers at the free Live at Lunch and Live at Five
concerts, which ended in April, were Ramon Torres,
Yelba and Max Cat, Rhett Butler, Brother 2 Brother, the Dan Scott Band, and Little Creek Bluegrass Band.
Looking for fun, tropical island tunes? Then stop by Tommy Bahama Café & Emporium at Market Street-The Woodlands, where musicians take the stage
Wednesday, Thursday and Friday nights from 5:30 p.m.-10:30 p.m. and Saturday
nights from 6:30 p.m.-11 pm.
How about great jazz sounds under the stars? You’ll find them at Market Street’s free Spring Concert series held every Thursday through May 21, from 6:30
p.m.-8:30 p.m. Enjoy the sounds of
Kyle Turner (May 7), the Texas Dixie Kings (May 14) and the David Caceres Group
(May 21).
“Our Spring jazz concerts have become a community favorite,”
|
says Market Street Activity Coordinator Jenny Taylor. “People come to shop, listen to music, then grab a bite. It’s a great atmosphere.”
And of course, the signature concert spot of The Woodlands and one of the world’s most popular outdoor concert venues, the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion,
re-opening on Friday, May 1, with a performance by the Dave Matthews Band,
followed by a schedule of other live concerts throughout the rest of the year.
The Pavilion, newly renovated with expanded covered seating, also is celebrating
its 20th Performing Arts Season with an eclectic lineup including eight
performances by the Houston Sym-phony, No Doubt (May 31), Rascal Flats (June
14), Coldplay (July 22) and the 14th Annual Children
’s Festival (Nov.14-15), just to name a few.
“The amount of renovation and reconstruction that has taken place over the last
four to five months as a result of Hurricane Ike has created a majestic venue
with a canopy more than twice its original size and three times more covered
seats. New sound and lighting systems, landscaping and accessibility have given
The Pavilion a brand new look and feel,
” DuBois said.
There’s also great, live music at Goose’s Acre (in Waterway Square), Perry’s Grille and Steak House (6700 Woodlands Parkway in the Sterling Ridge Shopping
Center), Amerigo
’s Grille (25250 Grogan’s Park Drive), Berryhill Baja Grill & Cantina (in Market Street) and a number of other restaurant and entertainment
venues in The Woodlands.
