Coming This Year to The Woodlands High School Theater - The Woodlands High School Theater Department promises an exciting season of
theater. The first show will be the classic,
The Man Who Came to Dinner by Moss Hart and George S. Kaufman. In this hilarious comedy, Sheridan
Whiteside, a theater critic, slips on the doorstep of the Stanley family and
injures his hip. He spends his six weeks of confinement as a tyrant in their
household. This will be directed by new theatre teacher
Tammy McClanahan.
In November, Technical Theatre teacher Tim Jackubek will coordinate The Twilight Zone based on the original series by Rod Serling. Four of the original episodes from
the television show will be adapted for the stage and directed by student
directors utilizing all students new to the TWHS stage. These four shows will
be in a contest for awards as they are judged by a panel of adjudicators after
an evening of competition.
Little Shop of Horrors by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman will be the musical offering this year and
produced in January, directed by Theater Department chairman
Carlen Gilseth. Based on the low budget black comedy by Roger Corman, this rock musical is the
story of a hapless florist shop worker who finds an unusual plant with special
powers.
To round out the year, the department will produce 24 Hour Theatre as students
write, rehearse and produce an original play in 24
hours. Writer’s Ink, the playwriting group, will produce an original show written by the
students. The Improvisation troupe, Instant Theatre, promises to present a few
performances directed by former TWHS theater teacher and professional actor
Larry Wood who studied at the famous Second City in Chicago.
All shows will be performed on the main stage or black box of The Woodlands High
School.
